general introduction / habits and thought; ancient China; medieval China; Song culture and society; the Mongol conquest; Ming dynasty; Christian missions; Qing dynasty; West and the Chinese culture

Learning outcomes
The goal of the course is to introduce historical and cultural anthropology of China in the Imperial period. Students will also learn about basic bibliography, which is required for the finals, and will be acquinted with Chinese terminology. A special attention will be given to the mode of interpretating facts in China and elsewhere.
The lecture is intended for Master´s program.
Prerequisites
The course is for the students of Chinese Philology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Regular attendance is required (absence is tolerated only twice per semester). Participants must read the recommended history books, and learn characters for Chinese names and terms.
