Course content
Acquisition of basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills for evaluation of all components of childhood development in individual age categories.The ability to recognize common childhood urgency diseases.

Learning outcomes
To acquire fundamental knowledge of emergency paediatric care principles, to become aware of the singularities of caring for seriously ill children in different age groups and particularly of the need for the complexity of nursing, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. To point out characteristic clinical pictures of urgent conditions constituting immediate danger to the child's life. To provide essential information on diagnostics, differential diagnostics, treatment and nursing practice. The subject innovation has been supported by the project Support of Interdisciplinary studies and Study Programmes Innovations at Palacký University in Olomouc, CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0091.
After completing this course, the students should be able to understand the specific characteristics of paediatric as opposed to adult health care, to recognize a life-threatening condition in a child, to intervene actively in a situation threatening the child's life, to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation to a child patient and to apply basic knowledge of diagnostics, treatment and nursing of a seriously ill child in particular situations; to utilize knowledge about causes, symptoms and diagnostic-therapeutic procedures in acute conditions in children.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

100% active attendance at seminars and practicals. Defense of the nursing process in a patient (child). The student is required to work with the learning objects, which have been created for the concrete subject and are available for authorized students in LMS EDIS.
