Course content
1. Terminology of GIS, position among other scientific fields. 2. Raster and vector spatial data models. 3. Projection Views - theory, application in the world and in our country 4. Using GPS for spatial analysis. 5. Spatial data analysis. Vector and raster tools of overlay, nearby processing. Intersect, Union, Identity, Buffer, etc. 6. Sources of spacial data, Map servers, WMS, IMS. 7. Alternative GIS sofware Accompaning practical excercises.

Lecture, Monologic Lecture(Interpretation, Training), Demonstration, Grafic and Art Activities
  • Homework for Teaching - 20 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Intro to GIS. Spatial data models. GIS applications - ArcView, Janitor, ArcGIS. Solving spatial problems.
Students know term GIS. Students are able to work with different GIS systems. They know how to use basic operations of spacial data processing and visualization. Students know how to use available map sources from map servers. They can digitize, create layout and solve spacial tasks.

Assessment methods and criteria
Seminar Work

Command of ArcGIS 10.1 software and ability to solve simple geographic analytical tasks. Ability to process data sources from internet.
