The aim is to work on the system of language training, develop language skill with the emphasis on scientific, medical and nursing area. The course should prepare the students for prompt and problem-free use of language at work, in communication with patient, client, his/her family, colleagues and other medical staff, to work with authentic foreign materials in the source language and create conditions for further education and training in chosen field of expertise.
After completion, student will: - know and be familiar with vocabulary including selected phraseology of general and specific language in the given field within the frame of communicative situations and thematic areas; - will know word-formative processed typical for vocabulary in professional language and selected features of stylistics; - use the acquired language means in fluent utterances according to the communicative intention; - react adequately to partner, make educated guess about unknown terms, use compensational forms, work with a dictionary (bilingual, monolingual), language textbooks and other information sources - to master model situations in hospitals and other medical institutions; - understand main ideas of adequate scientific texts, tell essential and additional information; - deduct the meaning of unknown words based on acquired vocabulary, word-formative processes, international terminology and context; - understand medical records in the language; - reproduce read or heard scientific texts, understand central ideas, make a summary and resume.
