Learning outcomes
Cardiology for general nurses is a sequel to the subject Internal Medicine, providing interested students with more detailed information about cardiovascular diseases (diagnosing and therapeutic possibilities in connection with nursing procedures). The seminars comprise examination methods in cardiology and basic diagnoses in cardiology, such as ischemic heart disease, arterial hypertension, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, arrhythmias and pulmonary embolism. In practicals students become familiar with ECG fundamentals and are shown basic ECG findings. The ability to evaluate ECG on their own is required and is evaluated by a test. Students are present at one of the examination methods carried out and available at the department, such as bicycle ergometry, tilt table test, right-sided cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, invasive electrophysiological study etc. Students carry out standalone examinations of patients with a focus on nursing diagnoses and several interesting case-reports are presented to them.
After completing the subject the student is able to implement the gained knowledge in a diagnostic-therapeutic approach to patients with cardiological diagnoses.
