Course content
The course aims to upgrade students´ command of English pronunciation and to raise their awareness of theoretical issues such as model accents of English, different transcription systems and pronouncing dictionaries, and differences between the Czech and British inventory of segmental and suprasegmental features.

Learning outcomes
During the introductory contact sessions, students are equipped with. the basic phonetics and phonology terminology and acquainted with the presentation of pronunciation aspects in different kinds of dictionaries, namely with phonetic transcription. Drawing on the students' independent study of segmental pronunciation features presented in "Phonetics and Phonology for teachers of English 1" via LSM Unifor, more attention is paid to suprasegmental pronunciation features (weak and strong forms of grammar words, English rhythm, word and sentence stress, features of connected speech) during contact sessions. Students are asked to keep their Pronunciation Portfolio. They are supplied with a number of short and long pronunciation tasks with Key or teacher's feedback, self-evaluation checklist, mock credit test, and pronunciation and definition of the most frequent terminology used throughout the course.

Credit requirements: - to attend at least 75% of lessons(although some exceptions are negotiable with the course teacher under some circumstances). - to do online coursework regularly throughout the course. - to participate actively in lessons. - to prepare for each lesson, do all assigned work - both oral and written - on time. - to pass an end-of-the-term written test (70% passing line) Exam requirements: - to read aloud a short English text - to answer questions related to specific pronunciation issues in the given text Students are entitled to retake both the credit test and the examination twice.
