Course content
The students will get acquainted with the basic principles of building grammatically and functionally correct texts and will acquire skills to find lexical and grammatical cohesive links, coherence and language economy in stylistically different texts. By translating some complicated text parts, they will achieve a complex knowledge of typological differences between the English and Czech languages. The analysis of various texts will develop understanding of using grammatical and lexical means typical for different styles (condensation, intertextuality, etc.) As a result of their individual reading, they will also learn basic facts about the contribution of Prague School of Linguistics to the development of world linguistics.

Learning outcomes
There are several aims of Text Analysis seminars: to summarize all the knowledge from the linguistic disciplines offered earlier (morphology, syntax); to teach the students the analysis of complex text parts, where they find cohesive links between individual sentence parts; c) to identify and correctly use sentence connectors and assess the correct organisation of the text and its communicative value.
Students will learn about the basic features of texts.
