Course content
1. Health, the definition of health, basic terminology and concepts of health, models of health, determinants of health. Health of the Czech Republics population. 2. Hygiene requirements for material equipment of a school - capacity, location, land of the school, the school building, school furniture, sanitary facilities. 3. Hygiene of school environment, heating, ventilation, lighting, noise protection. 4. Hygiene requirements for recreational activities for children and youth, trips, walks, tours. 5. Hygiene in learning - the daily routine for school children, biological rhythms, school work, psychogenic stress. 6. Occupational hygiene - professional stress with focus on the teachers profession. Diseases/illnesses related to working conditions of a teacher. 7. Nutritional hygiene - dietary composition, nutritional guidelines, health risks from food, school meals 8. Health and safety protection of pupils at schools and educational establishments. 9. General epidemiology - epidemic and infectious process, prevention of infectious diseases. 10. Special epidemiology - airborne infections, alimentary infections, infections transmitted by arthropods, intestinal parasites. 11. First aid, basic terminology definitions, the IRS, the importance of first aid, safety compliance, examination of an afflicted person. Orientation of accident severity. 12. Bleedings, types of bleeding, symptoms, first aid provision procedure. 13. Emergency resuscitation: provision of airways patency, CPR in adults, children, infants and newborn, ethical aspects of CPR. 14. Unconsciousness - quantitative, qualitative impairments of consciousness, fainting, collapse, first aid provision procedure. 15. Shock, types of shock, causes, symptoms, antishock provisions, first aid provision procedure. 16. Wounds, types of wounds and injuries, first aid provision procedure. 17. Injuries caused by heat, cold and electric current, burns, sunstroke, heatstroke, hypothermia, electric shock, first aid provision procedure. 18. Head injury and CMS displays, first aid provision procedure. 19. Spine and spinal cord injuries, the mechanisms of injury occurrence, symptoms, first aid provision procedure. 20. Thoracic injuries, types of injuries, symptoms, first aid provision procedure. 21. Abdominal and pelvic injuries, types of injuries, symptoms, first aid provision procedure. 22. Injuries to bones and joints, fractures, joint injuries, symptoms, first aid provision procedure. 23. Burns, injuries caused by animals (bites, insect bites, poisonous snake bites) 24. Poisoning - food poisoning, including mushrooms, drug poisoning, alcohol poisoning, carbon monoxide poisoning. First aid in acute poisoning. 25. Acute conditions in basic disorders - acute dyspnoea, cramps, tetany, hypo and hyperglycaemic conditions, nausea, acute diarrhoeas, acute appendicitis.

Learning outcomes
Students should be able to: - Characterize the determinants of general health; - Identify risk factors affecting health status of students in terms of school attendance, - To distinguish between different types of infections according to their transmission, - Applying the principles of prevention of infectious diseases. - Organize the process of providing first aid, - Recognize the signs and perform basic diagnostics of sudden ill health and accidents that threaten human health - Provide adequate first aid to states threatening the health and life of the individual
Students completing the course will be after school to know the basics of hygiene and prevention of infectious diseases. They will be able ¨to provide adequate first aid
Prerequisites
The prerequisite is completion: - The subject of biology in the context of grammar school curriculum - Study biology disciplines the child and adolescent

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Seminar Work

Basic requirements: - active participation in the seminar - 80% attendance of the seminar - elaboration of protocols from tutorials
