Course content
Basic concepts of protection of the population - emergency, integrated rescue system, rescue, relief work, accident, crisis situation, state of danger, an emergency ... Integrated Rescue System. Basic tasks of protecting the population - warning, evacuation, sheltering. Flood. Disaster. Labeling of chemicals, protection of the population in accidents with release of hazardous substances. Crisis Planning. Organization and legal aspects of first aid in the Czech Republic. General principles and procedures for first aid. Algorithm urgent resuscitation in adults. Algorithm urgent resuscitation in children. Shock states. Treatment of wounds, bleeding, bandages, and immobilization techniques. Basic rescue procedures, positioning of the wounded . Heat, cold, and chemical injuries. Electric shock. Drowning. Sudden allergic states. First aid for injuries of joints and bones. Poisoning. Head injury. Chest injuries. Abdominal trauma. Acute non-traumatic conditions - fever, shortness of breath, convulsions . Acute states in diabetes. Sudden episodes of abdominal. Foreign bodies. Sudden infant death syndrome.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming)
  • Preparation for the Exam - 90 hours per semester
  • Attendace - 4 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Philosophy of urgent medical help, catastrophe and emergency medicine. The student learns to master these both in theory and in practice.
Students will acquire basic knowledge about the organization of the integrated rescue system in the Czech Republic,potential emergencies and practically prove resuscitation in children and adults.
For students with previous secondary or higher medical education.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Ability to work independently with data and printed sources, on-line connection.
