Course content
Origin and evolution of life. Cell, cellular organelle. Biological membranes - basic function a structure. Physical properties of biological membranes. Organization of membrane lipids. Phase transitions. Mobility of membrane components. Membrane transport . Basis characteristics of major transport mechanisms. Diffusion. Transfer of ions across membrane. Mediated diffusion (carriers, channels). Active transport. Secondary active transport. Reception and processing of information by membranes. Physical signals. External chemical signals. Molecules of cell surface. Cellular recognition.Receptors, receptor response. Endocytosis mediated by receptors. Cellular adhesion. Cell dynamics: Cytoskeleton. Cellular contacts. Molecular motors. Active motion. Composition and structure of chromosomes. Gene manipulations, recombinant DNA technology.
