Course content
The course is focused on understanding the processes of sedimentation of Quaternary to recent sediments. Main themes involve: chronology and time-scale of the Quaternary, astronomical and terrestrial background of climate changes during the Quaternary, factors controlling the Quaternary sedimentation in Central Europe, continental and mountain glaciation, classification of Quaternary sediments as fluvial, glacial, aeolic, colluvial, lake and cave sediments - including the provenance of clastic components, facies, facies models and morphology of Quaternary and recent sediments

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, Monologic Lecture(Interpretation, Training), Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming)
  • Attendace - 28 hours per semester
  • Preparation for the Exam - 10 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The course is focused on understanding the processes of sedimentation of Quaternary to recent sediments.
The students should be able to - understand the processes of sedimentation of Quaternary and recent sediments - divide the time scale of Quaternary - define astronomical and terrestrial background to the climatic changes during Quaternary - classify the Quaternary sediments - describe facies models and morphology of Quaternary and recent sediments
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of paleontology, historical geology and physical geology.
