Practical field training focused on historical and regional geology of the Alps. Study of geological formations in the Eastern, Western and Southern Alps. Visit of important stratigraphic and structural localities, specific crystalline complexes (ophiolites), mineralogical and palaeontological localities and demonstration of the relationships between geomorphology and structure of a young orogene.

  • Excursion - 60 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Practival field training focused on geological structure of the Alps and important geological localities and geoparks in Europe.
The students will acquire: - field knowledge of important geological formations in the Alps - ability to describe important localities of minerals, rocks and fossils and assign them to higher tectono-stratigraphic units of the Alps - knowledge of structure and geomorphology of a young orogenic belt
Prerequisites
Knowledge of historical and regional geology of the Czech Republic, geological mapping skills.
