Course content
Introduction to all types of topographical maps and cartographical services provided in the Czech Republic in the past 200 years. Besides data of the specific data sets, the procedure of developing these sets will be explained along with their use for studying the development of landscape use. Topics of lectures: mapping of Austria-Hungary performed by the Military Geographical Institute in Vienna; mapping of the newly established Czechoslovak state - Military Geographical Institute in Prague; mapping during the occupation of Czechoslovakia by Germany; mapping by the General Staff of the Czechoslovak People's Army (renewal 1-4); mapping by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic; Czechoslovak and Czech civilian mapping in the twentieth century; use of old maps and landscape data in scientific disciplines (geography, landscape ecology, etc.); familiarisation with the interpretation keys to maps from various mappings.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is introduction of old topographic maps created for the area of the present-day Czech Republic.
Recall characteristics and know the posibilities of using old topographic maps created for the area of present-day Czech Republic.
Knowledge within the scope of compulsory cartographic subjects taught in the study programme of geography.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Written exam, Seminar Work

Elaboration of individual work on the topic of interpretation of land use in old topographic maps (interpretation of georeferenced old maps in selected localities).
