Course content
Student are introduced to principles of working of a computer, operating system and computer networks, mainly Internet and its services. Basic user and office applications are also presented. 1. Hardware. What is a computer, computer architecture (von Neumann) and the principle of its function. Numerical bases, propositional logic. Principles of working of a microprocessor, memories and other computer parts and peripheries. 2. Operating system, its structure a function in computer control, from both the user and administrator point of view. 3. Computer networks, technologies and principles of working. Worldwide network Internet and its services. 4. Creating web. Basics of HTML. Advanced technology to create web (CSS, XML, ...). 5. Principles of text processing on the computer. Creating large document using a text editor and TeX system. 6. Data processing in a spreadsheet.

Learning outcomes
The course gives common basic knowledge from the area of computer science. The subject creation has been supported by the project Support of Interdisciplinary studies and Study Programmes Innovations at Palacký University in Olomouc, CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0091.
Comprehension Recognize computer technologies, basic principles of computer systems and creating of programs.
Previous knowledge or skills is not assumed.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Student performance

Each student has to pass all written tests and one practical programming test on PC. The student is required to work with the learning objects, which have been created for the concrete subject and are available for authorized students in LMS EDIS.
