Course content
Introduction into neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, mainly of the auditory system Introduction into neuropsychology - brain correlates of mental processes, history of research in the functions of brain Imaging methods of brain and their use in neuropsychology of music Clinical cases of neurological specifics, of mental disorders and of disorders connected with musical activities Cognitive neuroscience of music - brain correlates of mental processes connected with music Brain and ohter art forms

Monologic Lecture(Interpretation, Training), Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming)
  • Attendace - 26 hours per semester
  • Preparation for the Exam - 38 hours per semester
  • Semestral Work - 25 hours per semester

Learning outcomes

After finishing the course students will understand the processes taking place in the nervous system and connected with music by a healthy man as well as by persons with neurological specifics and disorders. Students get insight into brain operations performed when we listen to music (when we play a music instrument, sing etc.), which makes it possible to better understand music as such. Students will also be acquainted with methods of achieving new findings in this field.
Prerequisites
The subject doesn´t require any special prerequisites, knowledges of structure and functin of human nervous system is an advantage, but the lessons will cover everything needed.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Student performance

Attendance and active participation, presentation of a review. The exam proves orientation of the student in the problems in the amount of lectured issues and obligatory literature.
