Course content
General biophysics. Molecular physics. Cell biophysics and biopotentials. Structure and properties of biomembranes. Action potential. ECG. Biophysics of tissues and organs. Natural and artificial radioactivity. Types and properties of ionizing radiation. Biological effects, irradiation illness, work safety, radiation protection, ecology. Principles of radiodiagnostics, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine. Biomechanics of bones and joints. Muscle contraction. Biomechanics of blood circulation. Gas exchange between inner and outer environment. Biophysics of sense perception. Classification of receptors. The essentials of ecological biophysics. Physical background of homeostasis.

Learning outcomes
The goal of the course is explanation of biophysical principles in physiological and pathological processes of human organism. To explain basic action mechanisms of selected physical factors on life systems with a focus on ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, mechanical factors, ultrasound and thermal field. The lecture topics will be general biophysics, molecular biophysics, biophysics of cell and biopotentials, ECG, biophysics of tissues and organs, biomechanics of bones and joints, muscle contraction, biomechanics of blood circuit, gas exchange between external and internal environment, biophysics of perception, essentials of ecological biophysics, and physical principles of homeostasis.
The students will be able to understand biophysical processes in human body and will be able to work with basic medical instrumental technique.
Students ought to have fundamental biology and physics attainments at the secondary education level.
