Course content
Principles of statistical decision. Deduction and induction. Conceptions, facts, terms. Statistical induction. Error risks. Observation and experiment. Controlled test. Placebo. Prospective and retrospective plan. Experiment with human subjects. Ethic principles. Population and selection from it. Data types, descriptive statistics. Frequency distribution, distribution functions, percentile. Theoretical models of probability distributions. Mean value, variance and correlation. Random event, probability, conditional and inverse probability. Statistical decision making. Tests of significance.

Learning outcomes
The goal is to make students familiar with basic principles of statistical reasoning, deduction and induction, with risks of the errors and the kind of errors, with the kind of clinical studies, with the concepts of population and the sample taken from it and with the random sampling methods. The kinds of data, descriptive statistics, the characteristics of the data location and variability should be presented, the same for frequency distribution, distribution function and theoretical models of probability distributions; also the principles of testing hypotheses, parametric and non-parametric tests as well, correlation and regression should be presented.
When going through the subject the student should be able to implement acquired knowledge in practice and in the research activities as well, student should manage the basic techniques of statistical computation by means of the statistical software accessible.
Prerequisites
Students ought to have fundamental attainments in mathematics and statistics at the secondary education level.
