Learning outcomes
This discipline deepens students' knowledge in the area of quantitative methodology and its connection to the statistics. The following concepts and topics are explained: descriptive statistics, sampling and population characteristics, standard scores, hypothesis testing, power analysis, choosing appropriate statistical method, basic designs dedicated to testing of differences (t-tests, ANOVA and non-parametric variants), basic designs dedicated to testing of dependence (contingency tables, correlation, regression analysis). Emphasis is placed on the description of typical designs and methods of data analysis. Common errors in preparing and implementing research are also discussed.
Knowledge: - General knowledge of the basic methodological and statistical concepts and terms, - working knowledge of the basic statistical tests according to individual types of research, - understanding the process of testing statistical hypotheses. Skills: - Student is able to formulate the basic statistical hypotheses for quantitative research designs, - selects an appropriate statistical method with reference to the design, - selects the most appropriate method of data presentation (charts, diagrams and/or graphs), - is able to read and interpret important information from data.
Prerequisites

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Didactic Test

Knowledge and skills are tested in the form of written test (at least 70% success rate). This is a test where apart from their knowledge students must demonstrate that they can use it in specific examples. The test is designed as a series of methodological problems with open response as well as exercises in creating graphs and tables, simple calculations and verification, tasks on interpretive skills, etc. After passing the test, these skills are by similar principle also examined during the oral exam.
